Appel Farm 2009 Festival Cancelled

Citing the troubled economy and a disappointing turnout last year, the arts center is putting the event on hiatus so it can plan its 50th anniversary festival for 2010.

Not all is lost, however:

Instead, the center will hold a benefit concert on June 7 to support its Rising Young Artist Scholarship Fund. The fund helps pay tuition for about 25 percent of the students who attend its summer camp.

Nearly a dozen musicians are donating their time for the concert, said Timmons, including Livingston Taylor, John Gorka, Vance Gilbert, The Kennedys and Grey Eye Glances.

Low attendance! It was pretty crowded there, IIRC. With that lineup, how could it fail?

If anything affected attendance, it was the heat, but that's out of their control.

Well, the article says attendance last year was 3000 compared to a usual 8000.
