1 dead, 15 injured after a storm and stage collapse at a country music festival in Edmonton, Alberta.

"Lightning, hail, thunder . . . it looked like a tornado," she said. "Debris was flying everywhere."

It keeps reminding me that Sunday afternoon at Falcon Ridge could have been far far far far far worse.

We were lucky.

Also, how was it this year?

It was good. I enjoyed myself, spent quite a bit more time at the stages this year than I did over the past couple years. Attendance was down quite a bit. Sunday evening looked kinda like a ghost town.

The music was fantastic. The Emerging Artist Showcase was... phenomenal. I had a VERY hard time picking three. To paraphrase Brian Gundersdorf (of We're About 9): For the first time, I can say that there's nothing I heard today that I hated.

Friday night mainstage was washed out by the rain. Ellis Paul was probably the biggest loser in it, since he was releasing his new CD and didn't have a mainstage slot until 2 performers before the end.

The Budgiedome sessions were good. We always have fun doing them, even if the weather SUCKS. I thought we were going to be washed out that night. I went to my tent to get some warmer clothes and then passed out... woke up a few minutes before midnight to the sound of no rain. And then I heard Abbie Gardner and Anthony Da Costa talking to people in the 'dome. I knew it was time to pop out and do my emceeing job :-)

Saturday during the day was a beautiful afternoon. I went down to see and hear Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams. I walked around the festival a bit, went back up and showered, came down during Janis Ian, listened a bit, walked around the vendors, saw some friends, got some food.

Saturday night, mother nature gave us a repeat performance at the Budgiedome. Rain. I don't know what it is about We're About 9 and The Budgiedome and rain. They seem to go hand in hand in puddle. We did our best to trudge on despite the rain.

Sunday was pack-up day. I had considered getting my car off the hill on Saturday night, but my civic hybrid would have none of that. The roads were mucky... wouldn't have made it. So, instead, I waited. I got my tent down and my equipment packed, and helped Steve and our new friend Paula pack up the 'dome. It rained a teeny bit around noon, and we had a couple drops over the next hour. After that though, the sun came out, and a breeze picked up, which really helped dry off the side of the hill. I thought I would need to have my car pulled out of the field by the tractor, but it made it out under its own power. (Surprise!)

I parked down below, walked back up to the 'dome to the sounds of Ellis Paul, finished packing up the 'dome, said some "goodbyes", said some jokes to our neighbors, walked down to my car, put on clean dry socks and sneakers, and returned to mundane life.
