No, not that 69, it was my race number, silly. I did a 5K race this morning. Too early, one might say (and one might be correct in saying). Not for me apparently. 9:05, the cannon went off with a bang and I hit the ground running. All of us who were doing the 5K run ran down the right side of the road and onto our course. When we started, the 10K runners were down the road a little ways in the left hand lane headed in the opposite direction as us.
As for the race itself, there were only two rough hills, one of them behind Rome Free Academy (aka High School). At least they came early enough in the running that they weren't too much of a problem.
I finished in 30:47 (Official time 30:52). That's a personal best for me. I've never run 5K that fast before!
In addition to my good run, I also got a shiny silver medal. Despite my finish of about 132nd overall, I was the second finisher in men aged 20-29.
So, to recap, I got 69 this morning, and got a medal for my performance. Thank you, I'll be signing autographs.
As a side note to all my Rocahcha friends, I won't be coming over to Rochester this evening as the Great Big Sea show sold out already. I'll be going to see Dan Bern in Albany instead.
